Appealing a Violation
In fairness to all, the established appeal procedure must be used in all instances of appeal. This appeal procedure is the only method of adjudication. Citations returned with notes do not constitute valid appeals and must be returned to the sender; this delay may result in forfeiture of the right to appeal.
Citations must be appealed through the outlined procedure within ten days of issuance. Beyond ten days, the citation receiver forfeits all right to appeal and is responsible for the fine payment.
All appeals must be submitted in writing, on an official Appeal Form (The printable form requires Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you do not have Acrobat Reader, please download it from the Adobe website). An appeal form must be properly completed and must be returned within ten days. Forms can also be sent upon request or may be picked up in person at the Parking and Commuter Services.
A magistrate is empowered to reduce, adjust, remove or uphold any penalties/fines associated with each ticket. The magistrate’s decision is binding. The appellant will be notified in writing of the magistrate’s decision.
Should the magistrate uphold the citation, the fine plus a $3.00 administrative charge must be paid no later than the date specified. Should the magistrate find the appellant "not guilty", the fine will be waived.
