NJ Transit Discount
Rutgers Full-time Students: Get on Board with a 25 percent Discount on New Jersey Transit Monthly Passes
Rutgers University full-time undergraduate and graduate students (12 or more credits) are eligible to receive a rail, bus, and light rail monthly pass at 25 percent off the regular monthly pass price, when they enroll online through NJ TRANSIT's Quik-Tik program (students must use this link to get the discount). The Quick-Tik program offers the convenience of auto-pay combined with online account management. You will receive your student monthly pass in the mail and your credit card will be automatically billed. Students must purchase the monthly pass online by the 10th day of the previous month; for example, if the next available monthly pass for a Rutgers-Newark student is September, then the pass must be ordered prior to August 10th. Please note that all students must re-register with NJ TRANSIT after May 30th. On May 30th of each year, NJ TRANSIT purges all student accounts in effort to update each student's current status with Rutgers.
Effective with the mailing of September 2009 monthly passes, NJ TRANSIT will apply a $3.00 non-refundable processing fee each month, in addition to the fare for the pass. Students who wish to avoid the processing charge will have the opportunity to opt out of the program and purchase their pass from NJ TRANSIT ticket vending machines or ticket offices (note that there is no other way to purchase a student discounted bus or light rail monthly pass but via the online system). Students who wish to purchase a discounted monthly rail pass without incurring the processing fee can do so using the paper forms that are available at rail station ticket windows. To opt out of the program altogether, students should simply cancel their account before August 10, 2009.
Students electing to participate in this program agree that the monthly pass is for their exclusive use only. Each student is eligible to receive one discounted monthly pass per month. Passes are non-transferable. Any abuse or purposeful deception will result in the cancellation of the student's monthly pass account, and (s)he will be unable to participate in the program in the future. This will also apply to any other student who is knowingly involved.
