Registration
and Fees

All vehicles parked on University property must be registered and
display a valid Rutgers permit. Vehicle registration is a personal
obligation and non-receipt of registration materials does not excuse
failure to register. Register vehicles for your use only. To register
a vehicle for another person’s use through false information constitutes
fraud. Parking permits are intended for use by the registrant only
and possession of another person’s permit does not grant you their
privileges. Use of counterfeit, stolen or altered permits is illegal.
Violators are subject to towing, fines, revocation of privileges,
and judicial action.
Faculty/Staff
Vehicle registration is conducted during November when registration
requests are sent to department heads. Departments are granted a
specific allocation of available faculty/staff space annually. The
names of eligible employees are furnished to the Office of Parking
and Commuter Services and registration forms are forwarded in turn.
Permits may be procured by mail or in person. An optional six-payment
payroll deduction plan is available. Employees not granted a departmental
allocation are permitted to purchase a permit for a prescribed hourly
rate facility. Faculty or staff members with unpaid citations at
the beginning of each permit year will be refused vehicle registration
privileges until all citations are satisfied.
Faculty and
Staff Fees
Faculty, Staff and Teaching Assistant permit fees are based
on salary; the minimum fee is .001 x the annual salary. Coadjutants
and other Rutgers employee job types pay $36 annually. Part time
lecturers (Type 7) with union status, job class code 99902, pay
$18 annually. Non-union part-time lecturers, job class code 99905,
pay $36.
A $5 fee is charged for each additional vehicle that is registered.
Temporary (Type 4) employees are not eligible for payroll deductions.
Work-study (Type 5) are not eligible for Faculty/Staff parking but
may purchase parking as students.
LOANER, RENTAL,
DISABLED VEHICLE POLICY
A temporary hangtag can
be issued to a student, faculty, and staff to use with a loaner
vehicle in the event that a vehicle (pre-registered with Rutgers
Parking) is either stolen or in a garage for repair. Verification
of the incident must be provided to the Parking Office. (i.e. body
shop work order, police report, or mechanic shop work order). The
temporary hangtag will be issued for a time period no greater than
two weeks. The temporary hangtag will replace both the original
hangtag and the sticker during the temporary time period. Please
Note: If your loaner or rental is not registered a citation will
be issued. Please bring the loaner or rental registration or agreement
to the Parking Office located in Blumenthal Hall Room 209 to obtain
the temporary permit.
Newly Hired
Employees should inquire with department
chair or designate regarding availability of allocated spaces. Space
permitting, new employees may apply for parking with written requests
from the employing department to the Office of Parking and Commuter
Services.
ID
Cards
When assigned to a gated faculty/staff lot, your ID will be activated
(hangtag and sticker) with the initial permit purchase. A $20 fee
is charged for a replacement ID card. ID cards are the property
of Rutgers University and must be returned to the Office of Parking
and Transportation Services located at 200 University Ave upon request
or upon an employee’s termination/resignation.
New Brunswick employees needing to park at Newark Campus must have
valid Rutgers University permit (hangtag and sticker) and notify
Parking and Commuter services to have IDs activated for access to
lots.

Lost
or Stolen Hang Tags
Hangtag holders are urged to lock parked vehicles at all times to
protect against theft. The University will not be responsible for
lost or stolen hangtags. Any lost or stolen hangtag should be reported
to the Office of Parking and Commuter Services immediately. A replacement
fee of full value (discounted overtime) is required in all instances
for faculty, staff, and students. Parking office requires you to
present the original receipt to qualify for a replacement.
How
To Display Permits
A Rutgers’ permit is a two-part permit system: a hangtag to be suspended
from your rearview mirror, plus a small color-matched window sticker
that must be permanently adhered to the left side window behind
the driver. You may register as many additional vehicles as you
need (at an additional charge) and you will be given a sticker for
each vehicle, but only one hangtag. You may not have multiple vehicles
on campus at the same time. The hangtag must be transferred to the
vehicle in use. A permit is valid only if the hangtag and the window
sticker are displayed simultaneously.
